REPAIRMAN - SLIDE GATE
Prepares used and relined ladles for use at the furnaces, maintaining hydraulically operated
slide gates, changing nozzles and plates according to type as necessary. Cleans, checks,
pre-heats and presents ladles to the furnaces. Operating and maintaining welding and
oxygen lancing for different steel plant requirements.
Key Accountabilities:
Fixes bayonet locks as to pre-assembled porous plug and nozzles with required steel
distance rings and tightens using a wrench and hammer.
• Maintain production & tapping time in during operation of ladle.
Checks ladle ready for furnace tapping by inspecting ladle interior, closes slide gate,
removes hydraulic cylinder, stops pre-heating and moves the lid away from the ladle.
Directs crane driver to position ladle at required sanding area.
• Report any unusual occurrences on ladle such as breakout, delays, overflow taps and
abnormalities on day to day activities.
• Ladie/ steel pot/slag pot slag cutting cleaning.
• Follow the HSE rules, regulations and procedures of the company, and report any HSE
concerns and incidents to the responsible person.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
Technical Diploma or Equivalent.
• 3-5 years relevant work experience. Required experience will vary according to trade:
Complete knowledge and understanding of plant, equipment and process in own area
Complete knowledge of operating and safety procedures and standards
Decision making skills
Ability to work as part of a team
English language skills-written and spoken
